Challenge Name:

Analyze the behavior of tourists and increase their average spending

Product Description

The product is a web-based interactive platform, that combines a robust data value chain and game design visual guidelines to maximize usability and engagement, empowering users to easily, and in real-time, not only identify the value gap in tourism related service offerings across locations, but also to be able to do that dynamically and with a deeper understanding.

By combining different contextual datasets (tourist traffic, venues, locations, demographics, weather, etc), the product creates a model that will analyse existing historical data and generate forecasts regarding tourist behaviors, along with the drivers behind it, as well as simulate what will happen if service offerings change, and its impact in other services or other neighbourhoods of a given city. Inspired by video game design principles, the product will present that information in a readable an actionable fashion to its target audience, in this case, municipalities and tourism bureaus or tourism groups.

Usage of Standards for data interoperability:

  • REST API documented under Open API specification
  • JSON as the data format for API output
  • EU (eIDAS) date format
  • Database modelling and naming standards:
    • snake_case for table naming;
    • full_length_id for id column naming;
    • all tables include timestamp columns for create and update;
  • Geographic coding standard ISO 3166 for country codes
  • Datasets made available will subscribe to the W3C’s Data Cube Vocabulary (W3C 2014)

Company Description

Fractal Mind was born in 2015, when Rui, their founder, was challenged to transform the way Worten employees celebrated their day-to-day activities. That project became the biggest gamification project in Portugal and one of the longest running employee gamification initiatives in the world. Since then, they've applied gamification to many different business contexts and have helped companies like Vodafone, Adidas, Worten, NOS and Via Verde address challenges in employee and customer engagement, corporate training and event engagement. MindOverData, their partner, is a Data Boutique consulting firm, working on Big Data and Machine Learning, merging business needs with technology. They envision data as the resource and people as the enablers of business solutions.
